Job Description
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - SWITCHGEAR DESIGN

Perform as lead project engineer on projects and orders as assigned by the Engineering Manager. Provide engineering designs, bill of materials (SOM), and instructions for the construction of customer specified electrical switchgear and successful fulfillment of technical requirements. Provide technical support and direction for mechanical and electrical drawings related to controls and equipment installed on custom switchgear. Able to apply engineering studies as required for, and in conjunction with, providing electrical switchgear, to include Coordination Studies and Arc Flash Studies.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Perform various engineering tasks involving such functions as analysis, design, development, test, installation, and service work specific to custom switchgear to include devices such as medium voltage switches, contactors, and motor starters and relay, control, and metering systems.
2.    Review customers' specifications and mechanical drawings to interpret and determine requirements with respect to manufacturing.
3.    Review electrical control wiring diagrams and/or one-line diagrams to interpret and determine the necessary changes required to meet the customer's specification.
4.    Manage projects/customer jobs and generate Bills of Materials, to include specifications for purchase of materials.
5.    Analyze test data and provide diagnostic solutions, this may involve preparing test reports for customers.
6.    Able to apply power systems studies and power quality analysis using analysis software.
7.    Develop test plans, sequence of operations, and P&C schemes.
8.    Provide technical support for shop floor personnel on manufacturing/wiring-related issues.
9.    Lead engineering staff efforts to resolve problems and develop new cost-effective methods.
1O. Lead investigations of technical problems and efforts to establish new procedures and corrective actions, to include quality improvement projects supporting quality and productivity goals.
11.  Provide input to various personnel developing quotations and provide guidance and recommendations.
12.  Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but will lead teams, to include designer/drafters, junior engineers, manufacturing personnel, and field technicians working on specific projects. This position will also be asked to mentor and train junior engineering personnel and provide direction and assistance within a team environment.
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Assist other engineering personnel when required to meet delivery objectives.
2.    Lead in the development of standardized procedures as required.
3.    Travel to customer's locations when requested to help assess problems or assist in commercial efforts
4.    Continually work in a safe manner in compliance with Company Environmental, Health, and Safety rules and guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS - BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

1.    Minimum 4-year BS degree in Electrical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology, from an accredited university or college.
2.    Demonstrated experience with the design of switchgear or similar electrical equipment.
3.    Demonstrated experience and proficiency interpreting electrical schematics and physical wiring diagrams.
4.    Demonstrate skills in applying engineering calculations and design principles to determine the electrical, physical, and structural strengths and attributes of large electrical and mechanical components and/or assemblies:
5.    Demonstrated experience performing Power Systems Studies using analysis software.
6.    Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.    Master's Degree or MBA.
2.    Professional Engineer (PE) licensure (in any state).
3.    Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, Easy Power, or similar software tools.
4.    Background in hands-on development including electrical and mechanical systems, software, and product reliability testing.
5.    Experience with regulatory, vendor, and customer management.
